Meatball Problem- Meatball Mathsters

IMG_0063 IMG_0062

We calculated the pots and meatballs seperately. We assumed that we were putting the chicken meatballs into the big pot, and the beef meatballs into the small pot.

We calculated the volume of each pot using the formula pi times radius squared multiplied by the depth, then subtracted the volume of the sauce (we used the same formula), and found the AV (available volume).

We then found the volume of each meatball by using the formula for a sphere: four-thirds pi radius cubed, then divided the available volume by the volume of an individual meatball to find the answer to the question: How many meatballs can you put in without the sauce overflowing?
